Flanged nut with a serrated face to resist self-loosening, electro-zinc plated finish and of property class 8.
The advantage of using a flange nut compared to using a standard hex nut is that the flange reduces the bearing stress on the joint. The bearing stress is the result of tightening the nut. This can be of importance when tightening onto aluminium and even mild steel using a high strength bolt. If the bearing stress is too high, the clamp force can decrease because of plastic deformation under the nut face. That is, the bolt can come loose without the nut/bolt rotating. A flanged nut can assist in preventing such plastic deformation. The serrations on the face of the nut resist self-loosening. One of the advantages of this type of nut is that they are free spinning but once fully tightened they become a lock nut by embedding into the surface of the joint.
